Soilwork have released ‘Night Whispers & Shining Lights’, a new single that caps the Swedish melodic death metal band’s 30th-anniversary year. The song arrives as the group tours Europe in support of Amon Amarth, alongside Orbit Culture, on ‘The Allfather Awakens’ tour.
“‘Night Whispers & Shining Lights’ is a hidden gem that’s been brewing in the vaults for a couple of years, but celebrates our 30th anniversary and the embarkation of our tour with AMON AMARTH and ORBIT CULTURE in a grand way,” said vocalist Björn “Speed” Strid. “We hope you enjoy it as much as we do! See you on stage soon.”
The track sticks to the formula that has defined the band: sharp riffs, sweeping melodies and big choruses. It is their first new song since ‘Spirit of No Return’, released in October 2024, and it comes as the band works on the follow-up to ‘Övergivenheten’ (2022). According to Strid, the next album will be largely self-produced, recorded at guitarist Simon Johansson‘s studio, and will aim to bring back some of the heaviness of ‘A Predator’s Portrait’ (2001) and ‘Natural Born Chaos’ (2002), blended with the atmosphere of the band’s recent records. Songwriting is also more collective now, with Johansson and bassist Rasmus Ehrnborn fully involved.
The Amon Amarth tour kicked off Oct. 9 in Manchester and has already hit London, Wolverhampton, Paris, Luxembourg, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Antwerp, Den Bosch and Hamburg. This Friday, Oct. 23, it reaches Gothenburg’s Scandinavium, followed by Stockholm’s Hovet the next night, two home-country shows for Soilwork. From there it moves through Helsinki, Tallinn, Gliwice, Leipzig, Oberhausen, Budapest, Vienna, Bamberg, Prague, Berlin, Munich, Milan and Zurich before wrapping up on the Iberian Peninsula: Barcelona’s Sant Jordi Club on Nov. 13, Madrid’s Vistalegre on Nov. 14 and Lisbon’s Sala Tejo on Nov. 15.
For Amon Amarth, the tour, announced in November 2025, serves as a lead-in to a new album the Swedish band plans to release in late 2026. It will follow ‘The Great Heathen Army’ (2022), released via Metal Blade and produced by Andy Sneap; in summer 2025, the band shared ‘We Rule the Waves’, their first new single in years.
Soilwork formed in Helsingborg in late 1995 under the name Inferior Breed and adopted their current name in 1996. From the start, the band fused the foundations of Swedish melodic death metal with groove-driven riffs and melodic hooks. To mark three decades, the group spent 2026 on a month-by-month retrospective, revisiting two albums at a time and sharing unseen studio footage, rare press archives and behind-the-scenes stories with fans.
The current lineup features Strid, guitarists Simon Johansson and Sylvain Coudret, keyboardist Sven Karlsson, bassist Rasmus Ehrnborn and drummer Bastian Thusgaard. Johansson, a touring session player since 2019, became a permanent member in March 2023, months after the death of guitarist David Andersson in September 2022.
