Rammstein Release ‘Deutschland’, Third Preview of ‘Live in Mexico City’

Rammstein share 'Deutschland', the third preview of 'Live in Mexico City', recorded at Foro Sol in October 2022.

Rammstein released the official video for ‘Deutschland’ on October 23, the third preview of ‘Live in Mexico City’, which captures the three concerts the band played at Mexico City’s Foro Sol, now Estadio GNP Seguros, on October 1, 2 and 4, 2022. It follows ‘Armee der Tristen’, issued September 24 as the first single on streaming platforms, and ‘Sonne’, whose video arrived October 5.

All three Mexico City nights sold out, with a capacity of 65,000 per show, drawing nearly 200,000 fans in total. They closed the North American leg of the band’s 2019-2024 stadium tour. According to the release information, gear, staging and pyrotechnics were flown in on seven 747 cargo planes, more than 200 crew members worked on the production, and it was the first time the group brought its full European production to the continent.

‘Deutschland’ was the lead single from the band’s untitled seventh studio album and came out March 28, 2019, their first new music since ‘Mein Land’ (2011). Its video, directed by Specter Berlin, drew controversy for its dark, violent journey through episodes of German history, with Ruby Commey as Germania. The song hit No. 1 in Germany, the band’s second chart-topper there after ‘Pussy’ (2009), and also reached the top spot in Hungary and Switzerland. Its B-side was a remix by Richard Z. Kruspe; the live album includes both versions back to back.

The film ‘Rammstein: Live in Mexico City’ was shot in 4K and directed by Paul Dugdale, whose concert films and projects include work with The Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift, Elton John and Adele. It opens in theaters worldwide on November 4 for a limited time, distributed by Trafalgar Releasing, with Filmwelt Distribution handling German-speaking countries. France gets a November 6 screening and Japan November 5 and 18. The theatrical cut runs about one hour and 50 minutes and features 20 songs.

The live album arrives November 20 digitally, on double CD, on Blu-ray with the extended 142-minute film in Dolby Atmos, and on four-LP vinyl, in black or in a color edition with three discs in Mexican colors and one splatter. There will also be a White Label version limited to 500 hand-numbered copies, exclusive to the band’s shop, and a deluxe edition with a 296-page hardcover photo book featuring unpublished images. On March 19, 2027, the Lucha Libre Head & Mask Edition follows, limited to 6,000 copies: it weighs about six kilos and includes a resin head with a wrestling mask, in six variants, one for each member, revealed only when the box is opened.

The album runs 24 tracks. It opens with George Frideric Handel‘s ‘Music for the Royal Fireworks’ as an intro, moves into ‘Armee der Tristen’ and ‘Zick Zack’, from ‘Zeit’ (2022), and takes in ‘Links 2-3-4’, ‘Sehnsucht’, ‘Mein Herz brennt’, ‘Puppe’, ‘Radio’, ‘Mein Teil’, ‘Du hast’, ‘Sonne’, ‘Engel’, ‘Ausländer’, ‘Du riechst so gut’, ‘Pussy’ and ‘Ich will’, among others. It closes with ‘Adieu’ and ‘Te quiero puta!’, a Spanish-language track from ‘Rosenrot’ (2005) that the band rarely performs.

Formed in Berlin in 1994, Rammstein have kept the same lineup since the start: Till Lindemann on vocals, Kruspe and Paul Landers on guitars, Oliver Riedel on bass, Christoph Schneider on drums and Christian “Flake” Lorenz on keyboards. They have released eight studio albums, from ‘Herzeleid’ (1995) to ‘Zeit’ (2022). Earlier, in 2011, the band had played Mexico, with dates at Mexico City’s Palacio de los Deportes, Guadalajara and Monterrey. The stadium tour wrapped on July 31, 2024, in Gelsenkirchen, the city where it began in 2019.
