Rammstein’s ‘Live in Mexico City’ Reportedly Won’t Reach Mexico With Its Original Cover Over Use of National Coat of Arms

Rammstein's 'Live in Mexico City' reportedly won't be released in Mexico with its original cover due to the national coat of arms.

‘Live in Mexico City’, the new live album and concert film from Rammstein, recorded at Mexico City’s Foro Sol, will reportedly not be officially released in Mexico with its original cover. The issue is said to be the use of Mexico’s national coat of arms alongside the band’s logo, which would conflict with the Mexican law governing national symbols. The band’s official store already excludes Mexico from shipping, according to a source at Universal Music Germany who spoke to Summa Inferno.

According to the same source, the band’s team tried unsuccessfully to resolve the situation and is now considering an alternate cover for the Mexican market. Neither Rammstein nor Universal Music has commented publicly so far.

This isn’t the first time the coat of arms has come and gone from the project’s visual identity. When the band unveiled the release in mid-September, the ‘Live in Mexico City’ logo included the national emblem; a few days later, it was replaced with a version without it, as documented by fan site Rammstein World.

Mexico’s Law on the National Coat of Arms, Flag and Anthem requires any reproduction of the coat of arms to faithfully match the official model, without alteration. Use by private parties requires prior authorization from the Ministry of the Interior (Secretaría de Gobernación), and the law’s regulations, published September 9th, 2025, specify that such authorization can only be granted when the reproduction contributes to respect for and veneration of the symbol. Article 56 lists “using the National Coat of Arms without authorization” as an infraction, and the law classifies it as serious.

Since a 2018 reform, administrative penalties range from a formal warning to fines of up to 10,000 times Mexico’s standard unit of account (UMA), more than one million pesos, with additional fines for each day the infraction continues, as well as detention of up to 36 hours. These apply without prejudice to civil or criminal liability, as Mexico’s Federal Penal Code separately punishes improper use of the coat of arms.

‘Live in Mexico City’ captures the three sold-out concerts Rammstein played at Foro Sol on October 1st, 2nd and 4th, 2022, in front of nearly 200,000 fans, as the finale of that year’s North American stadium tour. The film, directed by Paul Dugdale, runs 142 minutes and hits theaters worldwide starting November 4th. The 23-song album arrives November 20th via Republic Records on digital, double CD, Blu-ray and vinyl, including a four-LP edition pressed in red, white and green, the colors of the Mexican flag. A limited Lucha Libre-themed box set ships March 19th, 2027.
